Introduction

Hi, my name is Japhet Kapambwe Mesa, a Zambian youth aged 33 as at January 2018. I started this blog upon realization that there was little 'local' information about cryptocurrency. While the rest of the world is abuzz with digital money, as a country we seem to lagging behind as things unfold. Unfortunately, the 'crypto buzz' has come with so much information overload. Additionally, the information maybe a little too technical for one who simply wants to invest in cryptocurrency without knowing the underlying issues. On this blog I will try as much as possible to make it easy for a layman such as I am to understand and gain enough knowledge to trade confidently.

As a starting point, it is important for us to maintain and grow a glossary of words. Words such as cryptocurrency, blockchain, exchange, mining, lending and many more will be added as we progress.

I now invite you to join me on my journey into the cryptocurrency world.

Love, peace and harmony.

CRYPTOCURRENCY WALLETS: TYPES OF WALLETS

A cryptocurrency wallet is a digital wallet that refers to an electronic device, phone app, computer software or an online service that allows an individual to make electronic transactions. In this three part series we take a look at the types of crypto wallets and how to secure them. When a person sends you bitcoins or any other type of digital currency, they are essentially signing off ownership of the coins to your wallet’s Public Key. To be able to spend these coins(money) and unlock the funds, the Private key stored in your wallet must match the public address the currency is assigned to. If public and private keys match, the balance in your digital wallet will increase, and the sender's will decrease accordingly. There is no actual exchange of real coins(money). The transaction is s...
