I was recently invited to attend a presentation on cryptocurrencies. The presentation was being conducted by the deVere Group - Zambia. The attendees were to the deVere Crypto exchange app. Here is a review of the app.
What I love
1. First and foremost, I find the app to be well designed. The soft theme makes it extremely user friendly while maintaining the required functionality. The process of registering as a new user is straight forward and to the point. Once past the registration procedures the user is greeted by a well arranged dashboard, devoid of clutter.
2. The choice of cryptocurrencies is quite generous. An offering of 9 of the most sought after cryptos is definitely a big point for the app. Being able to swipe left and right to highlight a crypto is a hustle free way of navigating.
3. Security features. The app requires the user to login with their passcode every time they want to access it. The user has an option to set up 2FA. We love this because the extra layer of security certainly reassures the user that their funds are secure. The app further times out when left inactive.
4. The graphs are a helpful tool to keep abreast with the fluctuations of the markets. These too are friendly to look at. They are not intimidating even though they offer increased detail from daily changes, to weekly, monthly and yearly.
5. We love that users have an option to withdraw fiat or crypto.
6. Support. FAQs, live chat and call center are available options for getting support from the deVere Crypto support team.
What I love less
1. KYC process. The procedure for registration requires that a user completes a KYC process. Standard procedures really. However, a thorn about this process is that the user does not have the option to upload documents straight from their device. Instead, they are required to take photos of the necessary documents. This could be a little cumbersome depending on what documentation is being uploaded. For instance, for proof of address one may have to take a photo of their water bill. However, in Lusaka, water bills are no longer sent via snail mail but rather they are emailed to the client. Which means that one would have to download the bill as pdf, print it out and then take a picture of it. That was actually a mouthful (lol).
2. Funding options. The most disappointing feature of the app is the limited methods for funding the account. I was sad that the only method of funding the account is via bank deposit. I fear that this method may greatly reduce the levels of interaction between user and the app.
3. Support. I was greatly disappointed that the number that is available for calling customer care is NOT zambian. Further, my attempt to contact support staff at 19.28 hours Zambian time went unanswered, to date.
Recommendations
After considering both sides of the story I would like to make the following recommendations for consideration by the deVere Group.
1. KYC process. I would like to recommend that users be allowed to upload files from their device for the purpose of KYC.
2. Funding options. I recommend that deVere allows for funding of accounts by way of VISA/MasterCard as this will be greatly convenient for the user.
3. Support. Having a local contact number will also be convenient for the user.
